Dr Alok Rana MBBS, FRCPsych, FRANZCP, MBA is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychogeriatrician with special interests in Neuropsychiatry, Old Age Psychiatry, Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Dementia including Cognitive impairment and General Adult Psychiatry.

In the year 2000, Dr Rana graduated with Honours from the Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCS) in India and worked in medicine for three years prior to moving to UK in 2003. He finished his training in General Psychiatry in the UK ( attained Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrists – MRCPsych) before completing the specialist training in Old Age Psychiatry.

Dr Rana obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital Management and a Master in Business Management (MBA) from The University of Worcester in 2011. Dr Rana moved to Australia in 2016 to set up specialist services in Mackay including Consultation Liaison and Old Age Psychiatry services.

He holds a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) with Advanced Certificate in Old Age Psychiatry and Consultation Liaison Psychiatry. He was awarded Fellowship of Royal College of Psychiatrists(FRCPsych) in 2019 for his contribution to the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK.

He has had a lot of awards for his contribution in the area most noticeable being the winner of the BMJ Dementia team of the year 2015 award from RCPsych UK. He also has with a Specialist Certificate (CCT) in Old Age Psychiatry from the General Medical Council ,UK. He is an Adjunct Lecturer in Psychiatry at James Cook University (JCU) and Chief Training supervisors for Psychiatry trainees with Mackay HHS.

Dr Rana supervises medical students, junior psychiatry trainees, GP trainees in Psyciatry and specialist trainees in Consultation Liaison & Psychogeriatrics. He also works as a Consultation Liaison and Older Persons Psychiatrist at Mackay HHS. He is also director of ECT and Neurostimulation for the Mackay Hospital and Health service. Dr Rana provides clinical services both outpatient and inpatient as well as TMS services at Mackay Private Hospital.
